I had followed the charity for some time after coming across it by chance and had made donations, with absolutely no intention of ever adopting. Then, twelve months later, a photo appeared of the most striking little girl I had ever seen. Wicket and her beautiful pups had my heart instantly, and I knew all my good intentions were about to go straight out of the window.
The drive to Trowell to collect her was in torrential rain, but almost as if it were a sign, by the time we arrived the sun had come out and a special double rainbow appeared to welcome her.
Once home, Wicket settled in immediately. She was bold, brave and full of curiosity. We soon discovered that she didn’t quite understand toys, but she certainly enjoyed chewing a discarded shoe (or even a Louis Vuitton card wallet!). We are also convinced she cannot be entirely dachshund – she must be part kangaroo due to her incredible spring, with a little dressage horse mixed in as she trots around the house like an Olympian. Her nickname has quickly become “Tippy Tappy”.
Most importantly, she adores her big sister Binks, and Binks adores her. Their connection was instant. I won’t pretend I didn’t have moments of doubt between applying for Wicket and bringing her home, but seeing their bond has been truly special. They snuggle, they share, and they are a wonderful influence on one another. Binks has shown Wicket the ropes, while Wicket is teaching Binks to be a little calmer and that there is no need to bark at the postman.
We cannot thank DMT DRSG enough for bringing Wicket into our lives and allowing her to complete our pack. She is very loved.
