I discovered DMT DRSG a couple of years ago after meeting the lovely Lesley, she introduced me to the charity and as I have a slight obsession with Dachshunds, I set up my monthly donation and loved seeing the wonderful stories of these darlings being rescued and had thoughts of “one day”….
I spotted the “Honourary” Dachsund Tabitha in the early New Year, when she was rescued and fostered at Mrs Wangs.
Her wee face, bright eyes and tippy Tappy toes stole my heart!
I watched her progress through the next couple of months and just knew she would find a home quickly once it was her time for adoption.
Surprisingly, she didn’t appear to have a lot interest in adoption. I applied thinking there would be no hope, the final push for adoptions would surely bring in lots of applications?
But, it was me who got the call!
The girls were so lovely to talk to and when they called to say I had been successful!! I did cry… a lot!
The whole process of adoption was very easy, so well organised, from the initial contact to the collection at Trowel services, which was a hell of a long drive from North Scotland, but so worth it!
I knew she she was going to be tiny from all the photos and videos, but OH MY! She was so tiny and thin and scared, heartbreaking..
The first few days back at home, she was very nervous and Stan, my Romanian rescue, wasn’t overly impressed at first, but he soon came round to her which I knew he would. She seemed to settle in very quickly and her lovely cheeky wee character and confidence began to show.
They are best friends now, Stan is such a gentle boy, and so patient with her when she rampages around all over him, chewing his feet and ears!
She is such a wee cutie, steals everyone’s hearts…such a joy and she has brought such love and fun to our lives.
She may be 0% Dachsund in her DNA….(88% Miniature Pinchser)….But she is 100% dachshund in personality! Stubborn, hates the rain, greedy, a bit barky, a professional thief of socks, tissues and other treasures. Loves cuddles, belly rubs and cheese!
Thankyou so much, to each and every person involved in Tabitha’s rescue and adoption, special thanks to Linda and Lucy for all their support and advice. Xx
I can’t stress enough how rewarding it is to adopt a rescue dog. DMT DRSG are amazing, they go above and beyond for their wonderful rescues. The ongoing support and advice for the new parents is really helpful and appreciated.
Make a difference and give a beautiful, deserving soul the chance to find love and a new life … you won’t regret it..
