Seamus’s Adoption Story

Alex and I had been following the DMT Facebook page for about a year, but as we live in a house with a menagerie of pets (including 3 of the C word!) we wouldn’t be eligible to adopt most of the dogs.

Then with a little sprinkling of fairy dust, the soon to be named Disney pups were rescued from the horrors of a breeding facility in China. It was heartwarming to follow their story, from the horrible conditions they started out in to the confident friendly pups they were growing into. Little did we know that this was the beginning of our journey.

Around April 2024 they started appearing for adoption, and guess what? They were cat friendly! So, we applied, unfortunately we weren’t chosen to adopt the first time, but a week or so later the next group of pups had their time to shine so we applied again, and this time we were the lucky ones. We’d been chosen to be beautiful Pluto’s new family.

The next five weeks were a blur, shopping for new beds, collars, leads, with a mixture of excitement and trepidation… what if he didn’t get on with the other dogs, what if he didn’t like us, what if…….

Eventually the 29th May arrived and the plane landed with our furry cargo aboard. We set off to the meeting point, arriving over an hour early because we didn’t want to be a minute late. We were sat in the carpark, when a car slowly pulled up next to us … this was it! We were going to meet our boy! When the lady opened the back of the car, the emotions became overwhelming and I couldn’t hold back the tears. This beautiful, no so little, boy sat nervously in his crate was ours, and this is when Pluto became our Seamus!

We got him home and introduced him to our pack, Jake, Daisy and Douglas. I was surprised at how smoothly the intros went, and Seamus made an instant bond with our little Doug and have been the best of friends ever since.

Seamus has the biggest feet and hooter you’ve ever seen! he has no control over his clown feet and that nose can boop you from another room! He was a little on the lean side, but we soon fattened him up!

It hasn’t all been plain sailing, in the 6 months we’ve been his family there have been a lot of ups and downs. He’s chewed furniture, the toilet training went from good to awful, but we’re getting back on track with it. He’s a gannet when it comes to food, has to be fed separately from the others because he eats so quickly and there’s no filling him! But his good points definitley outweigh the bad. Seamus is an absolute diamond and everyone he meets loves him. He is quite shy around strangers, but nothing a little treat won’t sort out, and he hasn’t got a bad bone in his body.

Seamus has his little quirks, when you come in from work he tugs at your clothes, then settles in for a cuddle and nibbles your arm when he gets tickled!

Everyday with Seamus amazes us, how he has grown from that frail little puppy back in China, to this handsome beast with a beautiful soul.

Our little survivor, our Seamus!
