As I type this Roo is on my lap trying to chew my ear which just about sums her up! Our journey began autumn 2023 when I saw the first Tik Tok post of what would become the Super Six. My heart instantly went out to them & I began to follow their story.
We already had a 4yr old mini dachshund & a 13yr old Spaniel. Our spaniel was starting to slow down & I knew I wanted to do that thing & get my dog a dog 
Once Roo was named I knew in my heart I wanted to adopt her, I knew we could give her the life she deserved. As soon as her adoption was posted I completed the application & held my breath. Following the interview process I found out on Valentines Day 2024 that we had been successful, not sure who was more surprised when I burst into tears on the phone
Fast forward to March & we drove to Trowell services in the early hours of the morning to collect Roo.
The adoption team had been brilliant getting us prepared with what to expect & loads of advice on how to safely introduce Roo into our pack.
She instantly loved Chester the spaniel & would curl up next to him to sleep ( he just ignored her lol). We had to be careful with food & toys for a while as Miss Winnie can be a diva. It really didn’t take long before they were playing, sleeping together & grooming each other.
This year has been tough, we lost my Dad in June & then Chester in November so there has been lots of sadness & adjustments in our lives, but I can honestly say even in the darkest times Roo has put a smile on our faces.
How to describe Roo….. she is funny, sweet, I’m sure part mountain goat as she climbs on anything & everything, she’s been on dining tables, windowsills & regularly leaps across sofas. She def doesn’t realise she’s supposed to protect her back! She’s a Daddy’s girl & loves chewing ears & noses. We are members of 2 local dachshund groups & Roo loves going on the monthly walks.
We are still learning what she likes & dislikes. She can get overwhelmed with lots of people & doesn’t like loud noises. We took her on holiday this summer to Devon & a busy beach was too much for her. The last 2 weeks she’s has started to bark at the door to go outside for a pee which is a big step & means we don’t need to watch her constantly
If anyone is thinking of adopting I would 100% say go for it. The support we have had throughout has been amazing. I can never thank the charity enough for bringing Roo into our lives
