When I first saw Penny for adoption and looked back at other posts on “bambi” I knew I wanted to adopt her, she had obviously had a hell of a life, and I knew we could change that.
From the day Penny arrived, she chose her human…..it wasn’t me! She loves my husband Paul, and once he sat down she was on his knee making herself comfy, all gooey eyed (he has this effect) .
She does sit with me but despite the fact i feed her and give all the treats, paul is her favorite.
We didn’t know how our daxi Berty would be as she’s been totally spoilt and No.1 but she was really good and actually on the back foot for around 2 weeks because Penny is a sparky little dog with plenty resilience that’s obviously got her through .
They continue to learn about each other and know the flash points, Penny likes to preen Berty, which she loves, but it’s one way. Car travel isn’t Penny’s favourite, which in turn causes anxiety leading to bust ups with Berty, but with the help of a wonderful behaviourist, we’ve learnt how to use distraction techniques to calm the situation.
Penny is great off lead, loves to sniff everything and anything out…..wild strawberries, broccoli, rabbit poo .
Visitors are welcomed with lots of barking but end up being a new lap to sit on, quite amazing .
All in all I’d say rescuing one of these Daxis may bring challenges, but it’s totally worth it, the feelings we get from seeing Penny happy and safe, playing with Berty, knowing she’s living her best life, are priceless.
This charity does the most amazing work, long may it continue, and thankyou
