I seen Nell on tic toc, in a horrific state of affairs, but so happy to see her rescuer. In that moment through the tears, I wanted that pup.
After emailing a few times (probably harassing) and attending a charity advent, we filled the paperwork in, had an interview and we were chosen, yesssss.
We followed her journey getting updates from the charity.
The time finally came to collect her.
After driving through every jam possible, a stone chip cracking my windscreen and a last minute change to her name, we got our girl.
She was very easily won over with cooked chicken. We got home and opened the cage in the garden. I settled in for a looong wait. Well the chicken worked, she had a sniff and a lot of wees and ran straight over gave me a kiss and sat on my knee, slid herself back showing her belly.
She has loved us as much as we loved her from that moment. She’s a little sweet heart and that has never changed.
After finding her bearings we then introduced her to our other dog Rivva. There have been a few snarls and resource guarding, but the post adoption team were on hand to support us. Nell is taking things slow but their relationship is developing well.
We took things as slow as advised, but Nell had other ideas, she wants to start living. She runs to the door wagging her tail for walks as soon as we stand up, wanting snuggles off any human and politely greets other dogs. She loves rides in the car, pub lunches, exploring and chasing squirrels and birds. Nothing has really phased her, not fireworks, thunder or traffic, she isn’t so keen on the hoover but what dog is at first.
Overall it’s been the best experience, Nell has slotted in better than we could have ever expected. It has taken her time getting used to the great British weather, but she loves wearing a coat and jumper. She can sit and wait she is great at threshold training, is learning to walk on the lead and we’re working on her recall, toilet training is getting there but we have wipeable floors so there is no pressure.
This Charity and what you all do are amazing, from pre, during and post adoption it’s been straight forward, the communication and support has been second to none. Thank you so so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt this beauty.
