I came across the charity Tiktok account and was moved by the stories of these poor dogs. This led me to viewing the website and the current dogs available for adoption where I spotted a timid little soul who I would come to know as Hettie.
I decided to apply as a foster pawrent at first to test the water with my very independent sausage Winnie. I wanted her to have a sister but wasn’t sure who would be the right fit.
During the process of registering I was told there was a dog that needed a long-term foster home and was asked if I would consider them as Winnie and I would be a perfect fit… I said yes!
On 16th October I drove to Cobham services and walked towards a very barky van, already crying at the thought of meeting Hettie… there she was, the only quiet sausage, she was petrified. The crying (from me) continued on the drive home as it dawned upon me just how traumatised she was. She was wearing a little cat collar because she was so small . After lots of cheese and encouragement she stepped on grass for what was probably the first time in her 5 years of life.
Since then, Hettie’s personality has slowly been revealed the more she felt safe and comfortable. She now happy dances for her food, sleeps in the bed, and gets the zoomies. Each week she does something new to show just how happy and comfortable she is. The progress has been slow but so rewarding and I couldn’t imagine life without my little daxie duo. The bond between Hettie and Winnie has grown by the day and I can see them being inseparable in the future.
I’d just like to thank the charity for all they do in saving these little lives. And a huge thank you to all the supporters for helping this happen.
