Bowie’s Adoption Story

After coming across DMT DRSG while scrolling in May 2025, I followed them immediately. I was completely amazed by the incredible work they do rescuing these beautiful little dogs.

At the time, we already had Willow, our little rescue, who came into our lives after we lost our 11-year-old boxer, Rusty, to cancer. Willow healed our hearts when we needed it most and filled our home with her big personality from the very first day.

We had no intention of getting another dog—but then Bowie appeared. This tiny, elderly, blind girl came up on the adoption page, and we all fell in love instantly. As a family, we agreed we had to apply. When we got the call to say she was going to be ours, we were over the moon. We researched blind dogs and prepared everything to make her feel safe and secure.

We collected Bowie from Cobham Services on 22nd October. She cried all the way home, clearly unsure of what was happening. But when we got home and opened her crate, she crawled straight onto my lap, terrified yet trusting—and I truly believe she knew she was finally safe and loved forever.

Although she’s only been with us for 2 months it feels like she’s always been part of our family. She has settled in perfectly. I worried that adopting a blind dog might come with challenges, but honestly, she is an absolute dream. She knows her way around the house, has claimed her spot on the sofa, and definitely knows exactly where the treats are!

She’s confident when we’re out, happily trotting around the field right beside me. She’s bonded beautifully with Willow, and they love cuddling together. Bowie takes everything in her stride and amazes us every single day with her confidence and resilience.

Adopting her was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. We love her so much already, and she knows she has the very best retirement home for the rest of her life. She certainly won’t be our last rescue—there’s still plenty of room on the sofa, and we truly wish we could save them all.
