Volunteer Vacancy: Adoption Coordinator

DMT Dachshund Rescue

An opportunity has arisen to join our volunteer adoption team, coordinating adoption adverts, reviewing adoption applications and forming part of the panel who choose adoptive homes for our rescue dachshunds. This is a highly rewarding role as you will be directly involved in choosing the right forever homes for our dogs who have been through so much.


Role Title: Adoption Coordinator

Reporting To: Adoption Lead/Charity Manager/Trustee Board

Location: Remote

Approx hours per week: 5

Role Type: Voluntary


Responsibilities of the role:

  • Creating adoption adverts using our dog database to ensure each advert contains the most up to date relevant information and posting this on our charity Facebook group.

  • Reviewing applications against our criteria and arranging home check interviews with the shortlisted candidates

  • Conducting home check interviews via MS Teams for shortlisted candidates alongside the adoption lead.

  • Communicating with applicants on the outcome of their application either via email or telephone.

  • Supporting the adoption lead to ensure that all adoption fees and contracts are received on time.

  • Keeping clear and comprehensive records of adoption activity on our Microsoft SharePoint.

  • Responding to ad hoc adoption enquiries

  • Attending a monthly team meeting via MS Teams

  • Keeping in frequent contact with team members

  • Adhering to all charity policies and procedures. 


Skills Required:

  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Excel, outlook, teams and Facebook.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong organisation skills

  • Dedication and commitment to our charity’s mission and to achieve the best outcome for each rescue dachshund

  • Please note that previous rescue, adoption, or fostering experience is NOT necessary and all training/support will be provided.

Onboarding process: You will undergo a short interview to assess suitability for the role. The successful candidate will be required to sign a Non-disclosure agreement, a volunteer agreement and provide ID documentation to allow background checks to take place. On completion of suitable background checks you will then begin a trial period within the role.
