About the Charity
Dog Meat Trade – Dog Rescue & Support Group (DMT DRSG) is looking for a Treasurer to join its Board of Trustees. DMT DRSG is a UK based charity, dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs, particularly dachshunds from the meat trades of Korea and China. DMT DRSG welcomes a wide range of applicants who are energetic, collaborative and committed to supporting the charity’s growth.
DMT DRSG is managed by a Board of Trustees who are from a range of professional backgrounds including Design, Communications, Legal, Business Management and HR.
The main responsibilities of a Treasurer include the following:
- Engaging with and supporting the Charity Accountant in delivering against DMT DRSG financial objectives.
- Ensuring all financial policies are reviewed on an annual basis.
- Reviewing internal accounts and financial statements and presenting them to the
Board of Trustees.
- Leading in the Board’s duty to ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled and prudently spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
- Monitoring and advising on the financial viability of the Charity and the financial implications of the charity’s business plans and strategies.
- Providing Board oversight and support to the Chair on the charity’s risk management process.
- Acting as the board liaison with external auditors on technical and other matters.
We are interested in candidates with the following qualifications:
- Qualified/Part Qualified Accountant is ideal but we are open to working with someone who is undergoing training.
- Experience in working in a voluntary role is desirable but we are open to those candidates who are willing to invest in growing the financial acumen specific to charities.
- Experience in assessing, monitoring and developing plans to mitigate financial, operational and strategic organisational risks.
- Understanding and acceptance of the duties and responsibilities of trusteeship and the role of Treasurer in particular.
Legal obligations and responsibilities:
- Comply with guidance set out by OSCR and ensure all legal obligations and duties are met.
- Work with the entire Trustee Board to document and store the charity’s legal governing document.
- Work with the entire Trustee Board to submit the annual OCSR submissions.
Terms of appointment
This role is unremunerated. Please ensure you have the time to commit to this role (anticipated time commitment is circa 5 hours a month).
The Board meetings are held monthly, usually on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, all meetings are held via Microsoft Teams. There is also one Strategy meeting each year and an end of year Annual Accounts meeting. Ad hoc events include fundraising events and sales throughout the year, these are all voluntary.
